Our Design Process

Our business was founded on the belief that kids play is fundamental to their growth and development.

How We Design

Our team of educators and designers are specially trained in creating custom educational play spaces. We design playrooms to have as many creative activities as possible for the children, keeping in mind that “less is more”. Our thorough understanding of child development has given us the experience and education to understand what types of activities excite and motivate children. Smart Playrooms is the authority on educational and functional playrooms.

How We Organize

We pride ourselves in our thorough understanding of how to create functional organization systems that kids and adults can easily maintain. Organized toys, and how these are displayed and accessible, have a profound impact on how well the overall design of the room will function. We will choose open-ended equipment, products, toys and materials that invite children of all ages to play productively and ensure that the playroom grows with the child.

Our Approach

Our goal is to create beautiful, functional and inviting playrooms that are customized to the ages and interests of the kids while also naturally encouraging open-ended creative play. To achieve this goal, we combine interior design principles and functional organizational systems with a complete understanding of child development. The best way for kids to get all of the educational benefits from physical activity is by incorporating it into their daily routine. Children now spend less time outside playing, and schools are cutting back on recess time, which means that children must spend more time moving and playing in their own homes. Swinging, climbing, and jumping are all sensory movements that stimulate the vestibular system, resulting in a child feeling balanced, rested, focused and in tune with their bodies. We naturally incorporate Montessori and Emilio Reggio philosophies into our designs, resulting in spaces that encourage children to engage in open-ended creative thinking and play.

Montessori Educational Method: Rooms are designed with an emphasis on the "whole child." Playrooms will emphasize independence, freedom within limits and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical and social development.

Reggio Emilia Approach: The environment is the third teacher, and the purpose is to inspire children by having a playroom filled with light, order and beauty. Every material is considered for its purpose, and every corner is ever-evolving to encourage children to delve deeper and deeper into their interests.
