Karri Bowen-Poole, Designer and CEO
Smart Playrooms was launched in 2012 to create unique educational learning spaces to inspire creativity and a love of learning. Before starting Smart Playrooms, Karri had been teaching and working with children for over 20 years. After receiving a Master’s Degree in Education, she worked as a teacher at private schools throughout the tri-state area. She worked at the Buckley School and the Nightingale-Bamford School in NYC, Greenwich Academy and the Stanwich School in Greenwich, CT and the Rye Presbyterian School in Rye, NY. Karri has planned, coordinated and developed curriculums for children ages 3 to 12.
Karri recognizes the profound impact the playroom has on children’s behavior and how they interact, learn and play. Karri sees the playroom as the third teacher, and is passionate about creating playrooms that are fun, educational and inspirational by combining her educational expertise with her love of design.
Denise Davies, Designer and CEO D2 Interieurs
Smart Playrooms has been collaborating with D2 Interieurs on select residential and commercial projects to deliver the client a playroom with beautiful function and form. Since 2010, D2 has been creating beautiful homes. Recognized and saught after for their distinct use of color, and incredible kid spaces, D2 is helmed by award winning designer and CEO Denise Davies, who infuses her business with an infectious “Joie de Vivre” and an in-house team of fellow designers, architects and project managers. The D2 team mixes their love of modern sophistication with a little rock and roll to achieve a fun yet timeless look. Davies feels that bold colors can be sophisticated and elegant, and every room deserves good design, including the kid’s playroom. The perfect kids’ play spaces should be enjoyed by kids and appreciated by adults after all, color makes people happy.
Heleen joined Smart Playrooms as a designer in 2017. She was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands but has been living in the United States for many years. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College, PA with a B.A. in Economics and subsequently received her law degree from the University of Amsterdam. She worked as a lawyer in Amsterdam and New York for 15 years. After moving to the United States with her husband and raising three sons in Rye, NY, she was ready to make a change in her professional life. The creative process of designing functional and beautiful playrooms for kids has been a welcome and satisfying career change.
