Karri Bowen-Poole, Founder
Karri has been teaching and working with children for over 20 years. After receiving a Masters Degree in Education, she worked as a teacher at private schools throughout the tri-state area. She worked at The Buckley School and the Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City, Greenwich Academy and The Stanwich School in Greenwich, CT and Rye Presbyterian Nursery School in Rye, NY. Karri has planned, coordinated and developed curriculums for children ages 3-12. Since the establishment of Smart Playrooms in 2012, she uses her classroom experience and design talent to create unique playrooms. Karri lives in Rye with her husband and three children.
Chris Simpson, Co-Owner
Chris earned her elementary and special education credentials from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. She worked as a teacher with special needs children and first graders in Richmond, CA. Chris also trained teachers in the art of building community and collaboration among children in their classroom. She developed a teamwork curriculum for students in middle school, which is still used in Ross, CA. She joined Smart Playrooms in 2013 and her skills as a designer have become indispensible to the company. Chris and her husband have two children and live in Darien, CT.
Alison Cupp Relyea, Advisory Board Member
Alison Cupp Relyea is a freelance writer who writes creative nonfiction and content for small businesses. She lives outside New York City with her husband and three children. Before writing, Alison worked in marketing and then for many years as a classroom teacher. She loves writing as a way to connect with others and infuse some perspective and humor into everyday life.
